You have gone on vacation and stayed at a nice hotel. You come home and unpack. A couple weeks go by and you notice bites on your arms. You blow it off as a mosquito and forget about it. A couple more weeks go by and you now notice a new bite nearly every day. You wake up in the middle of the night and see little bugs feeding on your arms and legs. You have BED BUGS!

What do you do? Do you throw out your bed? Your sheets? Your blankets? How do you fight this pest? You have heard that these awful bugs are making a comeback. You have heard news stories about them infesting major cities but never thought they would infest your home. After you calm down give Green Akers Pest Control LLC a call and we can ease your worries.

Where do Bed Bugs come from?

Bed Bugs have made a major come back across the entire United States. Usually they begin infestation from bats living in one’s attic space. Bed Bugs feed on bats or chimney swifts, but these animals don’t usually remain in the same place. When they leave your attic the bed bugs will make their way down into the living space. They usually feed between two and four in the morning so the most logical place for them to make their home is on your bed or around your bedroom baseboards.

What is the Life Cycle of a Bed Bug?

The lifecycle of a bedbug is; Egg, nymph, adult. While in the nymph stage a bed bug only needs to feed about once every seven to ten days. Once they have fed they shed their skin and wait another week or so to bite again, this form of growth is called an instar. Bedbugs have five instars. Once they become full grown adults (about half the size of a pea) they will bite nearly every day in order to lay eggs, and then the cycle will start all over again. It can take a few months to become fully infested and you may not even know you have bed bugs for months after the initial invasion.

What can I do to get rid of Beg Bugs?

YOU DO NOT NEED TO THROW AWAY YOUR BED! I type this in all capital letters because I cannot stress this point enough. A great deal of clients I have worked for get very stressed out by the idea of having to throw out their beds and sheets. While bedbugs do live on these objects, after the treatment, they will die. Throwing away infested beds, covers, or clothing, does not eliminate the infestation. Bedbugs can and do live under carpets, inside wall voids, around crown molding and baseboards. While throwing away a bed can eliminate whatever is living on it, it will only cause you extra expense that you do not need to cause yourself.
